Sturge-Weber Syndrome Summer Reading and Medical Program at the Kennedy Krieger Institute

This new program is designed to provide individualized reading assessments and neurological assessments for children with Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS) and reading impairments. Interventions are coordinated through the summer to optimize progress in reading and neurological status. Patient assessments at the beginning of the summer are made by experts and then discussed by the program team (Dr. Anne Comi, Dr. Zabel, Lisa Carey and Cy Simonsgaard). Throughout the summer program, the patient returns for frequent reading interventions with the Kennedy Krieger Institute reading specialists. Regular medical visits, as needed, also take place. At the conclusion of the program, recommendations are provided to the family for the child’s ongoing medical and reading/educational needs. This program is supported by the Celebrate Hope Foundation.
